How Office Supplies Became Chic Party Decor at This Anniversary Bash

School and office supplies company Bazic Products hosted a glamorous Silver Jubilee—complete with pencils, paper clips, and more products as decor—to mark 25 years in business.

For one of the centerpiece designs, ENSO Creative utilized 4,000 Bazic Products pencils to create rolling hills accented with greenery and candles. To Rembac, the centerpieces added something unique to the dinner setting—without going overboard. 'We did these at our center tables and they were so impactful, and the perfect pop of product where it wouldn’t feel like overkill,' she said. For one of the centerpiece designs, ENSO Creative utilized 4,000 Bazic Products pencils to create rolling hills accented with greenery and candles. LOS ANGELES—
At BizBash, we love a glamorous take on an unglamorous theme. And one of our favorite recent entries into the category is Bazic Products' Silver Jubilee, a design-forward 25th anniversary bash that integrated the brand's office and school supplies in stunning, steal-worthy ways.

Producer Sterling Engagements wanted to design a beautiful event, of course, but also celebrate the company's two and a half decades of success, growth, and resilience. The result was a modern and chic winter celebration, held at Vibiana in Downtown Los Angeles, that creatively juxtaposed rich wintry florals, colors, and textures with office supplies like pencils, staplers, and rulers.

For the decor, Alexandra Rembac, principal and creative director of Sterling Engagements, was inspired by a trip to Iceland, where she observed the saturated blue colors of ice caves. "I then continued looking for inspiration, pooling photos that merged winter with the caves and different layers of a wonderland," she explained, noting that the result was a mix of blues—including dusty blue, twilight, sapphire, and violet-blue—along with pops of silver and ivory champagne to warm it up.

"Since Bazic was a new client for us, I took some extra discovery time to understand their brand and immerse myself in their culture," she added. "Their founder is an incredible person and the way he runs his company and the culture he promotes to bleed through was beautiful—and I wanted to honor that. He, Handy Hioe, along with his team, had a very strong desire to wow but also make the evening fun, and I worked hard to ensure we’d give them an experience that was strikingly beautiful while playful simultaneously."

The event featured two main areas: an outdoor cocktail reception that was designed as a "snow-dusted winter escape," said Rembac, before guests progressed to the indoor dinner. "The transformation inside, which we elevated to truly make feel silver-dusted, was definitely intended to add drama—giving guests the impression as though they were dining and dancing among a luxe snowcapped sparkling forest."

And then, of course, there were the Bazic Products integrated throughout. "Our client team loved the idea of integrating their products, and we wanted to do it in a way that felt intentional and purposeful," said Rembac. "I think when you design an elevated environment like this the last thing you want to do is allow it to feel cheesy or too branded. We were very deliberate with our choices, and ensured each one stood on its own but didn’t take over where anything felt too much."

Check out the long list of vendors involved, and keep scrolling to see photos and in-depth details from the gorgeous winter wonderland.

'Outside and upon arrival, we peppered in products that some of our lounge vignette bears were 'playing with,' said Rembac. 'We had polar bears appear as if they were playing with paper clips and the little ones climbing up rulers, which added just the right amount of playfulness to that environment.'

The escort display cleverly integrated composition books from the brand's product inventory. It was about 'producing a design that integrated them but also added a layer over it,' noted Rembac. 'Originally, we sought to have a set of deer illustrated over the books, but on a design call one day, the client had casually dropped that their mascot was actually an owl named Owzi.'

Winter wonderland-inspired entertainment was integrated throughout the evening. 'I knew we wanted guests to have interaction, so we added roaming entertainment to our cocktail setting as well as the arrivals portion of the reception inside,' noted Rembac. 'We had strolling entertainment escorting guests to their seats, playing with them at their tables as they were sitting, and just truly enriching the in-between moments to add just the right amount of extra fun to the setting.'

As guests entered the indoor reception—which was designed to evoke a snowcapped sparking forest—they discovered a 20-foot ice wall fabricated by Ice Bulb. It included a branded ice snow globe in the middle, and was flanked by ice walls with actual Bazic products frozen inside. 'They were so fun and playful, and the perfect breakup as guests transitioned to the main space,' said Rembac.

In another fun touch, Bazic Products served as ornaments on the snow-dusted evergreen trees. 'We selected a few key moments to integrate product, and wanted to really leave the bulk of the rest of the design a bit more untouched,' said Rembac.

'Because of the nature of Vibiana and the way the venue lays out, projection was the way to go,' said Rembac. 'We felt it would yield a much bigger impact than a ceiling install or anything too complicated on the tables.' Sterling Engagements worked closely with the venue's in-house AV team to produce 'scenes' that would subtly shift throughout the night: For arrivals, it depicted a snowlike journey to the destination; for the program, it was a forest that made guests feel like they were staring out a window at a perfect winter setting; and for the party, the projections morphed into a fun, festive, and celebratory atmosphere. 'We modified the overhead and front perspective within each look, and as the evening progressed, so did our surroundings—which was really fun,' she noted.

Additional tablescapes featured wintry florals. 'Given the time of year and the architecture at Vibiana, I just felt like a cool hue of colors was essential,' explained Rembac. 'I started with the ice and dusty blue and then added the twilight and sapphire for effect. Lastly, I really wanted to add a touch of a deep, saturated violet-blue to break up all the blue, so that little touch was just enough in conjunction with silver and a pop of an ivory champagne to warm it up a bit.'

Photo moments included a '25 lights' installation to represent the 25 years Bazic Products has been in business. 'I wanted to use lights inspired by the LACMA lights for the photo opportunity, but also add in a layer of intention,' explained Rembac. 'Shawna and the ENSO team were such incredible collaborators on this, designing and fabricating pencil lights for this moment that fit into the lamps and allowed us to then integrate fun facts about the Bazic Products journey within. This was probably my favorite detail of the night.'

Company facts were peppered throughout the event. 'Originally, we planned to take the front foyer inside and curate a museum for the client—but when the guest count grew, the space really was no longer there,' explained Rembac. 'I tasked [the client] with giving me a short list of history and moments we could still honor. When guests arrived, they’d be able to read and learn some at the bars on crafted snowflakes that popped off our bar menus, on cocktail napkins, and then again inside on our pencils within the 25-lights installation.'

The finale performance included a giant-skirted violinist. 'Entertainment was really important to our client,' said Rembac. 'Over the years, they’ve always hosted holiday parties that have had solid segments of entertainment that would run close to 45 minutes during dinner. I didn’t want anything running for that much time as I was fearful it would stale. So we tried to build the program with their needs for speeches and milestone awards, and then artfully filled in the program with a series of moments that just felt like fitting windows that made sense.'

“After the program concluded, we also worked with Rob Corrall of Second Song to engage one of his new acts that infused a DJ with live musicians and then integrated vocals too,” added Rembac. “This was something new and different and most hadn’t experienced this; it was fun to shake up the norm and really ignite the dance floor when it came time.”

Supercool Creamery—which serves nitrogen ice cream—and Conscious Bean—a curated espresso bar with infused flavors—added a warm and cool edible moment to the garden after dinner. The team worked throughout the evening to incorporate the theme through food and beverage. 'It was a blast to modify things just enough, like adding a little extra Parmesan to our starter course for snowy impact or making a winter pavlova with silver balls for dessert,' said Rembac.

Rembac's advice for celebrating a company milestone? Start with a conversation about the intention, she explains. Who is the event for, and what do you want to accomplish? 'I think establishing your needs, priorities, and, of course, budget, will always be the best first steps' she says. 'From there, partner with a team who can navigate you through the design and production that you trust and believe will be a true asset to your planning experience. If you are working without a team or are the team, use the goals and priorities to inspire your design and guest experience.'
