As we reported earlier in the summer, 20th Century Props will close its doors after four decades of business. A total of 93,752 items, including those used in film and TV, will be up for auction at the company's North Hollywood location from July 28 through August 1, beginning at 9:30 a.m. each day. The total value of the lot is about $8 million, with items ranging from the rattan furniture set used in The Golden Girls to a desk owned by Howard Hughes from The Aviator. The pieces will be auctioned by Great American Group with simultaneous live bidding on the Web.
"This is a time to honor and recognize 20th Century Props, led by Mr. Harvey Schwartz," said Mark Weitz of the Los Angeles-based company Great American Group in a press release. "We expect interest from around the world as this is an historic collection of Hollywood memorabilia."
