CANADA: A New Tourist Attraction, Ottawa’s Hybrid Jazz Fest, a Celebration of Indigenous Music and More

NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO: Sept. 3 will mark the grand opening of the Niagara Parks Power Station, a new tourist attraction considered to be the only fully intact, decommissioned hydroelectric power plant of its era in the world. The attraction will offer daytime tours and a brand-new immersive sight and sound nighttime experience, created by production firm Thinkwell.

OTTAWA: The annual TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, running this year from Aug. 19-22, will offer both in-person and virtual programming. The in-person concert series will be held at various venues in the city, while virtual tickets allow access to performances after their initial broadcast.

ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR: The Cape to Cabot 20K is set to return in October, after last year’s race was run virtually. The notoriously challenging race from Cape Spear to Signal Hill is capped at 500 participants, and organizers are prepared to have a physically distanced start depending on local regulations.

TORONTO: After two summers of cancellations, the 25th annual Toronto Ukrainian Festival will be back from Sept. 17-19 in Bloor West Village. The celebration of Ukrainian culture will take on a virtual format; festival organizers will soon announce details on both in-person and virtual participation options.

VANCOUVER: Indigifest, a celebration of Indigenous music, is hosting a series of performances across British Columbia, from the northern Kwadacha Nation in Fort Ware to Vancouver Island. The free, virtual concerts will be livestreamed every Thursday during the month of August on Indigifest’s website.
