US: Fan Expo’s Big Expansion, Elliot Page's Outfest Honor, a Bitcoin Conference in Miami and More

NATIONAL: Comic convention producer Fan Expo HQ has announced that six of Wizard World’s largest events will be joining its portfolio. Wizard World’s events in Chicago, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Portland, St. Louis and Cleveland will be rebranded as Fan Expo events in 2022; in total, Fan Expo will now operate 17 shows in North America, making it the largest producer of fan conventions in the world. Highlights of the company’s portfolio include Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, MegaCon in Orlando, Calgary Comics & Entertainment Expo Fan Expo, Dallas Fan Festival and more.

CHICAGO: On Aug. 15, a portion of Chicago’s Michigan Avenue will be closed to traffic for Meet Me On the Mile, a free, family-friendly event from the Magnificent Mile Association featuring yoga classes, musical acts and more, as well as COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot offerings. The event is the first of three “Sunday Spectacles” during the campaign, which also includes biweekly concerts on Thursdays.

LOS ANGELES: Elliot Page will receive the prestigious Outfest annual achievement award at this year’s Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival. The honor will be presented at Outfest’s closing night gala, taking place Aug. 22 at the Orpheum Theatre. The festival runs from Aug. 13-22 with both in-person and online screenings, plus special events like an outdoor gala at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and the fifth annual Trans and Non-Binary Summit.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: The Miami Beach Convention Center will host Bitcoin 2022, billed as the world’s largest bitcoin conference, from April 6-9. The gathering will host company founders, C-suite executives, bitcoin holders and industry experts, and organizers hope to draw as many as 30,000 people. On the last day, the Sound Money Festival will feature live performances and entertainment.

NEW YORK: Hip-hop artist Nas will debut the Concert to Feed NYC, a benefit for food rescue organization City Harvest taking place on Sept. 23 at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens. The 4,000-attendee event is expected to feature speakeasy-style suites, mini lounges and high-end culinary experiences, as well as exclusive merchandise from sponsor DKNY. Tickets go on sale on Aug. 13.
