Glut of Events This Week—Across Industries—Points to Fall Season Pickup

Earlier this month, we reported that event professionals expected the fall season to bring back an abundance of events—and if this week in Los Angeles is any indication, business is back big time.

Tonight brings events across all industries, from entertainment (a screening and cast performance of Fame, handled by ELS at the Grove, and the Zombieland premiere, produced by 15/40 Productions at the Chinese Theatre) to retail (Target's U.C.L.A. promotion) to music (the inaugural Ooh La L.A. French music festival, produced by Goldenvoice at the Henry Fonda Theatre through Friday) to charitable causes (pet adoptions, cocktails, and fund-raising at L.A. Dogworks).

The event industry has its own event, ISES's Jam networking and trade show event at the Millenium Biltmore. Participating organizations include ISES Orange County and San Diego, M.P.I. Southern California, Wedding Industry Professionals Association, Association of Bridal Consultants, Set Decorators Society of America, Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, and others. Expect a flurry of tweeting from the floor.

Among tomorrow's events are three fashion shows—a rare stack-up in a town typically known more for entertainment than fashion. Macy's annual Passport benefit is the biggest gig in town, taking over Barker Hangar with a "Come Together" theme. Over at Smashbox Studios, the Susan G. Komen Foundation will host Fashion for the Cure, including a fashion show from Diane von Furstenberg's holiday and cruise 2009 collection, with more than 500 people expected to attend. And down in Orange County, at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, the Country Friends group and South Coast Plaza will host the 54th annual Art of Fashion runway show to benefit Voices for Children. (It's also the day Orange County's second annual Style Week kicks off.)

In addition, Variety will host its annual Power of Women luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire, with production by Joe Moller. The All My People event will take to the AK1511 space on Abbot-Kinney Boulevard, a brand base for Amp Energy and Belvedere. The party will celebrate the participants in the What's Next documentary series for AMP Energy, which includes talent in art, fashion, music, and film. Molly Sims and Friends of El Faro founders will host the sixth annual Friends of El Faro event at Boulevard3 to benefit the children of Tijuana Casa Hogar Sion (formerly El Faro) orphanage. Vivica Fox will host the launch of Candy Ice fine jewelry by Lucy Kilislian at Prego in Beverly Hills. And the Pacific Design Center will host its first annual Outdoor Chic Affaire, an alfresco fete that concludes its fall market period. The Blue Lobby will be transformed into a tropical garden, replete with outdoor products created by PDC showrooms and barbecue snacks catered by Wolfgang Puck.
